Tips To Prevent High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure can creep up on you. This condition puts extra strain on your organs and blood vessels, increasing your risk of various heart diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. But it doesn’t show any symptoms. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have it measured. Therefore, if you’re over 40, you should have it monitored as directed by your doctor.

These are the factors that increase the risk of high blood pressure:

  • Be over 65 years old.
  • Being overweight.
  • Have a relative who has it.
  • Eat a lot of salt and little fruit and vegetables.
  • Doing very little exercise.
  • Drinking a lot of alcohol or caffeine.
  • Smoke.
  • Not sleeping enough or not sleeping well.

If any of these factors sound familiar to you, it would be a good idea to get tested, even if you’re under 40. You can do it at your doctor’s office, at a pharmacy, or even by yourself using a blood pressure monitor at home.

If you have high blood pressure, there are many things you can do to lower it. And if your blood pressure is fine now, you can also prevent it from getting worse by following these tips as well.

Eat less salt.

Cooking fresh food will help you control the amount you eat.

Eat healthier.

The ideal is to eat more fruit, vegetables, and unprocessed foods.

Exercise regularly.

You don’t have to become an elite athlete. Just doing something that raises your heart rate for 30 minutes a day is a good start.

Drink less caffeine and less alcohol.

Switch to decaf coffee and caffeine-free herbal teas, such as green tea.

Quit smoking.

Or at least smoke less.
