How to Prevent Hypertension?

As one of the diseases that is quite dangerous to get the nickname The Silent Killer, hypertension, or commonly known as high blood pressure, needs attention from every individual.

This is because hypertension can attack anyone without any signs appearing on the body.

Although in general, people with hypertension do not show any specific symptoms or complaints, there are nonspecific complaints that can be felt by people with hypertension, including: 

1. Headache and dizziness

2. Heart palpitations

3. Chest pain

4. Restlessness

5. Blurred vision

6. Easily tired

By definition, hypertension is a condition in which the systolic blood pressure in a person’s body is more than or equal to 140 mmHg and/or the diastolic blood pressure is more than or equal to 90 mmHg.

How to prevent hypertension

Even though you have done various ways to treat hypertension, you still take preventive measures for hypertension so that symptoms of high blood pressure do not reappear. 

There are six ways suggested by Dr. Siti, including:

1. Reduce salt intake and follow a healthy diet

2. Reduce alcohol and caffeine intake

3. Lose weight if necessary

4. Exercise regularly

5. Get enough rest

6. Manage stress well

So, there is no need to wait until severe symptoms appear to consult a doctor. The reason is, hypertension is often dubbed a “silent killer” because the symptoms may not be visible at first. 

So, when you or your relatives have risk factors, ranging from age, genetics, to lifestyle as mentioned above, don’t hesitate to consult a doctor.
