Pulmonary tuberculosis ( pulmonary TB ) is an infectious disease caused by infection with the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which primarily attacks the lungs. This disease is transmitted through the air (airborne disease), so the risk of transmission is quite high.  Tuberculosis is still a major health problem in the world, especially in densely populated areas. Knowing the symptoms of pulmonary TB early is very important to prevent transmission and start treatment as soon as possible.
What is Pulmonary TB?Â
Pulmonary tuberculosis is a lung infection that is transmitted through airborne particles called droplet nuclei, when the sufferer coughs or sneezes.Â
According to dr. Buti Ariani Arnur, SpP, a Pulmonary & Respiratory Specialist from Eka Hospital Bekasi, not everyone who is exposed to TB bacteria will develop TB disease.Â
Dr. Buti explained that people with low immune systems are at greater risk of developing TB. Tuberculosis can be cured if treated properly, but delays in diagnosis and treatment can lead to serious complications and further transmission.
Pulmonary TB treatment must be consistent
Treatment for uncomplicated and comorbid pulmonary TB
generally lasts for six months. It is very important for patients to undergo treatment until completion even though their symptoms have improved. Dr. Buti emphasized that pulmonary TB treatment consumes anti-tuberculosis drugs for a certain period of time, and must be carried out under the supervision of medical personnel.Â
If you or someone around you experiences symptoms of pulmonary TB, consult a doctor immediately. Discipline in treatment is very important to prevent drug resistance that can worsen the condition.
Respiratory System Care Week is an important moment to raise public awareness about various respiratory diseases, including pulmonary TB.Â
Pulmonary tuberculosis is a curable disease, but it requires treatment and high discipline.Â
Early detection is the key to reducing the spread and impact of this disease. If you experience symptoms of pulmonary TB, do not hesitate to seek medical help immediately.
