Follow These Tips For Softer Lips

No one can deny that a beautiful and alluring mouth does not wear red lipstick, but rather one that boasts softer lips with healthy, well-cared-for skin. To achieve this, you can use various natural and homemade treatments.

We’ll tell you about some of them in the following article.

How to get softer lips

Who wouldn’t want to have irresistible lips like those of movie actresses?

If, on the other hand, yours are cracked, dry, and peeling, we advise you to use some of the following recipes and tips:

1. Use moisturizing lipstick

They can be found in pharmacies, perfumeries (and similar stores) and contain very good ingredients to reduce dryness, such as essential oils or petroleum jelly.

A good lip balm will provide vitamin E, which results in soft and healthy skin.

  • Remember to use this product in both winter and summer.
  • For hot days, we also recommend that the moisturizer contain at least SPF 15.
  • Apply several times a day before using your favorite lipstick and even when you go to bed at night.

2. Drink plenty of water

If you want soft lips, it’s essential to keep them moisturized. In addition to external lip balms, you should hydrate your body from the inside out. And for that, there’s nothing better than drinking plenty of water every day.

You probably know that the recommended amount is 8 glasses (2 liters) and that you can also include herbal infusions and natural juices to avoid getting bored and to meet the recommended dose.

3. Exfolia

You might find it strange to read that you should exfoliate your lips if they are dry because you think it will irritate them even more.

However, this treatment helps to remove accumulated dead cells and allows for a complete recovery of the skin.

However, the movements must be gentle so as not to hurt the very delicate area.

There are several homemade lip scrub recipes. You can apply them with a toothbrush, and don’t forget to apply moisturizer afterward. Exfoliate once a week.

Sugar and honey lip scrub

This is the most effective recipe if you want a sensual and smooth smile. Both ingredients eliminate dry, flaky skin from your lips.

We recommend using sweetened honey, as the runnier kind doesn’t exfoliate. You can substitute petroleum jelly for the honey.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar (10 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (25 g)

Preparation

  • Place the sugar and honey in a bowl.
  • Mix well and use a toothbrush to apply it.
  • Place it on your lips and, with gentle circular movements, massage the skin completely.
  • Rinse with warm water.

Coconut lip scrub

Shredded coconut acts as a powerful impurity remover and is not as abrasive as sugar. You can start with this treatment if your lips are very chapped.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of shredded coconut (10 g)
  • 1 teaspoon of water (5 ml)

Preparation

  • Mix the water with the grated coconut and form a paste.
  • Apply to the lips and rub in circular motions (you can use your fingers or a toothbrush).

4. Don’t eat salty foods

Believe it or not, very salty snacks or foods are bad for the health of your lips.

This is because the salt gets “stuck” to the skin and absorbs the little water that has been stored when they are dry.

If you can’t avoid eating French fries, try to rinse your mouth well afterward.

5. Protect them from the weather

In winter, we must be very careful of the wind, low temperatures, and even the snow. All of these elements can damage the skin of the lips.

We recommend wearing a scarf to cover your mouth.
However, during the summer, the biggest enemy of this sensitive area is undoubtedly the sun.

In addition to applying sunscreen, you’ll need to use special lip balms and, if possible, avoid going out during midday. If you do go out, wear a hat.

6. Don’t lick or bite yourself

These are irrational habits that can seriously damage the lips.

Firstly, if you are constantly licking them, the saliva will dry out the area and also remove the natural balm layer that protects it.

Flavored lipsticks are also ruled out, as they encourage us to lick them.

It’s also not good to bite your lips, because the pressure from your teeth damages the delicate skin.

We also advise you not to pick at it when these “layers” or flaking appear, as this will slow down the healing process, cause bleeding, and further irritation.

7. Moisturize with oils

If you don’t want to use store-bought lipsticks, no problem, because you can use oils and enjoy all their moisturizing benefits.

For example, olive or almond oils are recommended and very easy to find.

  • Apply a few drops to the skin and let it absorb completely.
  • You can take advantage of times when you’re at home watching television or reading to do this treatment. It’s best if you repeat it several times a day.
  • You’ll create a protective layer against the sun and weather while moisturizing your lips and giving them shine.

Remember, if you see any wound on your lip that doesn’t heal or any other sign that might alarm you, visit your doctor for an evaluation.

With these tips, you’ll have softer lips all year round. Want to give them a try?

While some may be helpful, they are not a substitute for professional medical care. At PRIMICIA,  we remind you that it is always important to consult a doctor before using any home remedy for an illness or ailment.
