How To Detect The Symptoms Of Menopause

The first symptoms of menopause usually appear gradually, which is why they often go unnoticed or are misinterpreted as a reaction to stress, says the German Menopause Society.

Menopause usually begins in the early to mid-40s, but it can also occur earlier. On average, women have their last menstrual period, known in medicine as menopause, in their early 50s.

However, each body has a different rhythm, so the duration and symptoms of this hormonal change are varied.

How can women tell when menopause has already started? A look at changes in menstruation can help, looking at these factors:

  • Has your menstrual cycle length fluctuated in recent months?
  • Were the periods of different llengthsor intensity?
  • Were there longer periods without menstruation?
  • Has your mood plummeted in the past six to twelve months, compared to before?
  • Have you suffered from insomnia?
  • Did concentration and performance decrease?
  • Do you get hot flashes from time to time?

The German Menopause Society states that the more questions are answered with “yes”, the greater the probability that the woman has entered menopause.

Those who suffer from severe symptoms can consult a gynecologist. According to the German organization between one-third and one-half of women feel severely affected during menopause.
